New Membership: An introduction to Morningside Hills what to expect, and what we expect from you
Club Championship Series Seasons - We have "seasons" that run a little over 3 months, culminating in a Club Champion. The championship series tournaments consist of 2 weekly tournaments mixing single play and unlimited play covering all of WGT's main courses. Your scores in these tournaments carry points which accumulate season-long, and hopefully put you into one of two brackets - The Championship Bracket or The Redemption Bracket. The single play tournaments establish your seasonal, club handicap which is used in post season play. You don't HAVE to play in each and every tournament, though when you miss one you'll find yourself further behind in the club standings.
"Featured" Tournaments - In addition to the regular season tourneys, we have several featured tournaments including the ever-popular LaBonte Cup (a Ryder Cup inspired tourney), Survivor tourneys, bracket challenges, The Hillside Cup, CC vs CC, etc. Some of these require forum sign-ups and sometimes the sign-up duration is small, so it's best to check the forum often. Many of these tournaments carry a purse - see the club Bank for details.
Leagues - If you sign up for League Play, you'll be drafted to 1 of 4 teams. You'll have 6 head to head match play games against members of the opposing teams. Help your team to victory, or wallow in the pain with the 3 other losing teams.
Exclusivity & Community - You'll notice our membership is limited to 50. I can assure you it's not because we can't get more members. We've been around for over four years and we do things that I'm not so sure the larger clubs can. We intend to keep it this way, and we don't want to have wasted spots. When you join Morningside Hills, you're joining our community. This is a very social club and you need to be someone that wants to interact with our membership and actively does so. If you are not someone that talks and plays with the existing membership you will stick out in the wrong way. This club is not for everyone and the community aspect is important to the existing members.
Tiers and Talent - The majority of members are Legends, with some Tour Legends and Champions, too. By no means does this mean you have to be one of those to be here. Most of us started here at lower tiers, and almost all keep getting better. There will be scores in any given tournament ranging from 56 to 76. Never once has anyone been ridiculed for shooting "bad" scores, however we've lost some quality members due to their own feelings of being incompatible. We don't have a tier or scoring requirement in the club, but we feel prospective members should ideally be Master or above. This is more a measure of experience and dedication than "talent". (We want to know you play fairly often.) We currently don't accept hacks or amateurs - not because they're not good - just that they haven't been around long enough for us to know that they intend on playing WGT often in the future. If you're a Pro or Tour Pro, feel free to make a case for yourself and we'll certainly consider your membership too.
Integrity and Honor - This has to be as important to you as it is for us in order for things to work out. Multi-accounters and sandbaggers are obviously undesirable around here. If you are one of these, you wouldn't like it here anyway. Being in the club carries a bit of responsibility in that by being a member, you're also representing the club as a whole - we're not saying you can't argue or simply have a lapse of judgment moment. We're not the boy scouts, we're not imposing a strict code of conduct - but we choose to surround ourselves with honest, friendly folks. We like it better that way and hope that you do too. "Represent Well " has been our motto since club formation and is the impression we expect all to project.
Tournament Participation - There's no expectation that people play everything but the vast majority of us are pretty active and it's best if you are too. Many of us will miss some time on the tourneys here and there - some of us will take a leave of absence for a bit. This is fine. On the other hand, if you are Not participating more often that you Are participating, perhaps being in this country club isn't in your best interest - or maybe there's another club that will suit you better. We do require a minimum participation of 80% in our weekly Elite tour and Majors to achieve a seasonal, club handicap (1 round/week over a 10 week period). In addition, anything that you sign up for is an obligation of your time and failure to fulfill those obligations is worse than not signing up as you're probably wasting another member's time. We want you to take full advantage of the multitude of things we have going on, but only if you actually intend to play and communicate as necessary.
Forum Participation - There is no specific requirement for posting in the forum. Most members do some socializing there, whether related to club activities or not, and the ability for real-time messaging is helpful if your looking for a round. There is a ton of information put out by the directors pertaining to upcoming events, season planning, rule changes and more often than not, member participation in making changes or giving your opinions. If you aren't staying caught up at least weekly in the forum, your level of involvement is not making much of difference.
The New Member Application Process - It's fairly simple. We just want to know that you have read this page. That you know there's a website and forum in this club and that we use both regularly. We want to know that you know what we're about, what we do, and that you want to be a part of it. If this is what you're looking for, fill out this club "application":
